Founded at the end of the Great Depression, the Navy Federal Credit Union has grown to now serve over 10 million member-owners. The financial institution is a not-for-profit credit union specifically for military members and veterans. If you have an account with Navy Federal, you may need to transfer money to your account from time to time. Fortunately, there are many ways to do this, all of which have easy-to-follow instructions.

Tip

You can transfer money to your Navy Federal account from another Navy Federal account, an account from a different bank, Zelle or Western Union.

Navy Federal to Navy Federal Transfer

If you want to transfer money from one Navy Federal account to another, such as savings to checking, you'll need to sign up for online banking. From there you can either log in to your account from a web browser or the company's mobile app. You'll see "Transfers" in the navigation menu, so click that and then hit "Make Transfer." Select the Navy Federal account you'd like to withdraw the money from and then the Navy Federal account you'd like to deposit the money in.

Next, enter the amount of money you need to transfer. Select the date you need the transfer to go through and then select the frequency (monthly if you'd like the transfer to recur each month, for example). Click "Continue," review that the information is correct and then finalize the transaction by selecting the "Make Transfer" button.

Transfer From Another Financial Institution

If you have an account with another financial institution, you can log in to that bank's online banking service and request an ACH transfer to your Navy Federal account. Locate the "Transfers" tab and follow the prompts to enter the required information in the correct boxes. You'll need to enter your Navy Federal account number, as well as the bank's routing/transit number (256074974).

Enter the amount you'd like to transfer, as well as the date you'd like the transfer to take place. Confirm that the information is correct before authorizing the transfer. Processing times may not be as fast as other methods and Navy Federal reports that it may actually take a few business days for the money to show up in your account.

Apps to Transfer Money

Apps like Zelle make transferring money from one bank to another a breeze. Check to see if the bank you'd like to transfer the money from has Zelle inside their mobile banking app. If so, you can click on this and follow the prompts to move money from that account to your Navy Federal account. If not, you can download Zelle and make the transfer directly from their app.

To transfer using the Zelle app, your Zelle and Navy Federal accounts will need to have different email addresses. Once logged in, you'll need to enter the email address associated with your Navy Federal account. Afterward, you can type in the amount you'd like to transfer and then click "Send." The funds should be available in your Navy Federal account within minutes.

Transferring Through Western Union

Another option is to sign up for a Western Union account. You'll need to create and verify a profile before you can transfer funds. Once you log in, enter the amount of money you'd like to send and choose "Bank Account" as the receive method. Enter the details of the Navy Federal account you'd like the money transferred to.

Choose your payment method next. This can be a bank account at another bank or a credit card. Review the details to ensure everything is correct and then click the "Submit" button. Western Union will provide you with a tracking number, although most transfers are completed in just a few minutes.
